MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Helping put Alabama's tornado ravaged cities back on the right path one pizza pie at a time, the world's largest pizza chain announced Tuesday how much money was raised during a day long fundraiser.
Pizza Hut said a portion of the profits from a day set aside from all its restaurants in Alabama generated $40,416 to help assist victims of the communities impacted by the recent Alabama tornadoes.
"We are incredibly moved by the community's support of our fundraising event and are pleased that their generosity will allow Pizza Hut to donate $40,000 to our neighbors affected by the storms," said Tom White, South Territory Vice President of NPC International, Inc. (dba Pizza Hut).
A total of 15 percent from the May 12 sales went to benefit United Way tornado relief efforts.
The money raised helps the United Way assist the growing number of people in Alabama who were impacted as a result of the tornadoes.
