Alabama senior rower Alissa Kranz was named to the All-Conference USA first team the league office announced this week.
"Alissa exemplifies the characteristics of discipline, commitment, tenacity and team work which rowing demands for success," UA head coach Larry Davis said. "I'm very proud of what she has accomplished both throughout her Crimson Tide career and with this latest honor."
Kranz was one of 15 rowers honored by C-USA following the conference portion of the season. In her second year as a member of the Tide's First Varsity 8+, Kranz led Alabama to the Cal Cup at the 2011 San Diego Crew Classic as well as a gold medal at the 2011 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.
The West Palm Beach, Fla., native was also a member of the inaugural C-USA Boat of the Week and Row2K.com's Crew of the Week after winning the Cal Cup. She also earned a place on the 2011 C-USA All-Academic Team, along with teammates Jessie Allaway and Stephanie Varner. Kranz follows Laura Skaggs, who earned a place on the inaugural C-USA all-conference team last season.
Kranz also earned a place on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll and earned the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar Athlete award. She has earned President's List (4.0 GPA) and Dean's List (3.5 or better GPA) honors and was inducted into Golden Key honor society as well as earning UA's Scholastic Excellence in Marketing award.
The Tide's rowing program, along with fellow SEC team Tennessee as well as Big 12 schools Texas, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma, joined Conference USA as an affiliate member last season. The six affiliates join member schools SMU, Tulsa and Central Florida to compete under the Conference USA banner.
