A 21-year-old suspect is behind bars after running from Wetumpka police for 4 days.

Alejandro Harris is charged with Attempted Murder of a police officer and is being held on a $60,000 bond.

Investigators set up a check point around 1:00am Saturday on Highway 231 where they were searching for suspects involved in a nearby robbery.

When the vehicle Harris was riding in pulled up to the checkpoint, authorities say he jumped out and fled on foot. A Wetumpka officer chased Harris into a wooded area where investigators say Harris pulled a gun and shot at the officer.

The officer returned fire but no one was injured in the shootings.

Police say the Alabama Bureau of Investigation was not called to look into the shooting, which would be a matter of policy had someone been injured.

Harris is being held at the Elmore County Detention Facility.
