The Auburn University faculty Senate meets October 14th and could consider a resolution calling for the resignation of state Senator Lowell Barron from his seat on Auburn Board of Trustees. Judy Sheppard, a faculty Senate steering committee member and associate professor of journalism, said the resolution is a response to what she called Barron's clear effort to block a legislative vote on three board nominees.
The State Senate Confirmations Committee could not vote on the nominees September 25th because there were not enough members present for quorum. Sheppard and other faculty members have alleged Barron planned the delay to keep his board seat. Barron of Fyffe could not be reached yesterday for comment.
