FEMA approves 250 mobile homes for storm victims

FEMA trailers to be used as a last resort for storm victims FEMA trailers to be used as a last resort for storm victims

FEMA has approved nearly 250 mobile homes for the survivors of the April 27th tornadoes but only 35 are being used.

FEMA officials try to find rental space for families first and use the trailers as a last resort.

Before mobile homes can be used the site has to be cleared of debris and declared suitable, after that septic, power and water must be hooked up before anyone can move in to the home.

FEMA trailers will be a hot topic at tonight's council meeting in the Walker County town of Cordova. The mayor said he is worried that once the FEMA mobile homes move in, they'll never roll out.
