CLANTON, AL (WSFA) - One child has died and another is injured following a double-shooting in the Chilton County city of Clanton. The prime suspect: the young boys' mother.
Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said the shootings happened around 10am Friday in the 3000 block of County Road 69. That's just outside the Clanton city limits in the Enterprise community
E911 operators took a call saying there were victims with injuries at a mobile home. The sheriff's department, fire and rescue, ambulances and other first responders rushed to the scene where they found the two victims, ages 11 and 15. The sheriff has confirmed they were brothers.
The 11-year-old was taken by helicopter to Children's Hospital in Birmingham where he was pronounced dead. The 15-year-old was taken by ambulance to Shelby Medical Center where he's listed in stable condition.
The boys' mom, 34-year-old Ann Campbell, was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. Sheriff Davis said Campbell was still on the scene when his deputies arrived, and she was arrested without incident.
Though its significance is not currently known, a court document signed on May 27th shows a date set for a "petition to modify" custody of the children pertaining to child support payments. That court date was set for July 1.
WSFA 12 News is not publishing the document because it includes the identities of two minors, one male and one female.
The investigation into this double-shooting is ongoing. WSFA 12 News will have additional information as it becomes available.
