I'm on the hot seat. If I were a football coach, I'd be answering questions like, "Do you feel like you have the full support of the administration?" That's what happens when you have a losing week. A disastrous 3-5 in the Southeastern Conference, 4-6 overall. For the year, the numbers look like this: 38-16 in the SEC, 47-24 overall.
So I'm going back to basics this week in practice, focusing on fundamentals, and taking them "one at a time."
Georgia at Vanderbilt - Nothing like a "gimme" to get it started. Someday the Commodores will win another SEC game. But not this week. Georgia 42, Vanderbilt 14
Florida at Arkansas - I'm tempted to go with the Gators, by virtue of their win over LSU. But something tells me the Razorbacks will not lose two in a row at home. Arkansas 35 Florida 31
LSU at South Carolina - I'd call this a "toss up." Holtz at home on a Saturday night is tough to pick against. But I think the Bayou Bengals bounce back from last week's loss to the Gators. LSU 28, South Carolina 21
Ohio at Kentucky - the Wildcats are inviting the Bobcats to Lexington for Homecoming. Jared Lorenzen was injured in last week's game, but backup Shane Boyd showed promise. Either way, it's a win for the home team. Kentucky 31, Ohio 10
Alabama at Ole Miss - WSFA is the place to be to see this one Saturday morning. If Brodie Croyle plays, the Tide can hang with the Rebels in a shootout. No Brodie, no passing game. And even if Bama's defense gets to Eli, the Crimson Tide might not be able to score enough to stay in it. Alabama 28, Ole Miss 27
Mississippi State at Auburn - Nothing Tommy Tuberville loves more than to kick Jackie Sherrill while he's down. The Tigers might be tempted to look ahead to LSU next week. It's the coaches' job to make sure that doesn't happen. Auburn 35, Mississippi State 14
Florida International at Troy State - Homecoming for the Trojans. TSU is running out of running backs, but assistant coach and former TSU quarterback great Mike Turk could probably get out there and move the chains against the winless Panthers. Troy State 31, Florida International 7
Prairie View at Alabama State - How 'bout those Hornets! The hometown Hornets love to put on a show at Cramton Bowl. Tarvaris Jackson and Keldrick Williams will be "prime time players" Saturday night at the Bowl. Alabama State 42, Prairie View 21
Tuskegee vs. Morehouse - It used to be automatic to go with the Golden Tigers. But Rick Comegy's team is struggling to score so far, and the defense might not be quite as stingy as in years past. Morehouse 21 Tuskegee 20
