The Children's Hospital Education and Safety Center will host the Second Annual School Nurse Workshop on June 28-29, and again July 26-27. Each workshop day will last from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will take place at the Children's Hospital Bradley Lecture Center (1600 6th Ave. S., Birmingham). The reason for two dates this year is to compensate for all the nurses that are to attend. The two dates will cover the same material.
The workshops will cost $25 per person and is available to the first 175 applicants. The first day of each workshop will be a series of lectures on topicsthat will include: asthma, diabetes, ADD/ADHD, autism and orthopedic injuries. The second day will be hands-on practice with clinical experts via skills labs. Skills topics include: catheterizations, pediatric assessment, insulin pumps and carbohydrate counting, IV insertion and more.
"Evaluations completed by the school nurses attending the workshop expressed that the offering was invaluable and that the presenters offered information that would greatly influence the care of their children at school," said organizer Ginger Parsons, RN, who serves as an educator through the CHECK Center.
