Elmore County seeks help to honor service members

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) -

Elmore County leaders are working to honor service members in the community. They are in the process of updating the 9-11 Memorial that's outside the courthouse, and they're reaching out to the public for help.

The 9-11 Memorial was first dedicated back in May of 2005.  This past April, the county re-dedicated the memorial in honor of Army Specialist Joshua Lancaster at the annual County Government Day.  Special Lancaster was killed in a rocket attack in Afghanistan in January of this year.

Commission members are now in the process of updating it to include every resident service members deployed since September 11, 2011 to memorialize their sacrifice and service.

Commissioners say, they can't update this without the community's help. They're asking the public to call in the name, rank, and branch of these local service members to the Elmore County Commission Office, 514-5841; or the information can be delivered from the Elmore County Commission website, www.elmoreco.org, under 9-11 Memorial Update from the menu bar on the left side of the home page.
