Sen. Harri Anne Smith, one of the defendants, leaves the courthouse Thursday, a day before the opening arguments get underway. Sen. Harri Anne Smith, one of the defendants, leaves the courthouse Thursday, a day before the opening arguments get underway.

A jury of 12 and a alternate group of 5, is now in place for the federal gambling corruption trial against Victoryland casino owner Milton McGregor and 8 other individuals.

Check out WSFA 12 News' blog Courtroom Chronicles 2011 for updates from the federal courthouse in downtown Montgomery.

Judge Myron Thompson said as Day 3 of jury selection wound down, "That's our jury..." He then went to work on confirming the alternate jurors.

McGregor, several lobbyists and four state lawmakers are on trial as the federal government tries to prove they conspired to purchase favorable votes in an electronic bingo bill during the 2010 legislative session.

The court recessed until Friday when opening statements will begin at 9:00am.
