Auburn swimmer given academic honor

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Senior swimmer Erica Meissner has another achievement to add to her list after being named to the Capital One At-Large Academic  All-America Second Team after making it to the Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team.

Meissner also joins teammate Dan Mazzaferro on the Academic All-America Team. This is the first time since 2006 and the fourth in history that Auburn swimming has had two recipients in the same year.

"This is a great honor for Erica and really exhibits the hard work she put in during her career, both in the pool and the classroom," said Brett Hawke, Auburn's head swimming and diving coach.

Meissner will earn a B.A degree in Anthropology in December. She has won the McWhorter Award and was named a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship. She has been named a SEC Academic Honor honoree three times.

Along with previous honors, Meissner has also been named All-America honors in 2008, College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American, Auburn Top Tiger, and Auburn's top student-athletes.

She has too scored Auburn's second best time this season in the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley.
