Possible Changes at Capitol Due to Budget Cuts

State budget cuts are affecting the operation of the state Capitol. Lee Warner of the Alabama Historical Commission says the air conditioning will be run fewer hours, maintenance will be postponed, and groups will be charged for using the Capitol auditorium.

Warner says more cuts may have to be made later, including possibly turning off some of the floodlights that illuminate the Capitol at night. Warner says the Capitol's operating budget was cut by 28 percent to 758,000 dollars and that's not enough to operate the historic building.

The Alabama Historical Commission looks after the Capitol.
