LOWNDES CO., AL (WSFA) - One person is dead and three others are injured following two separate, simultaneous vehicle crashes on Interstate 65 Monday morning.
Alabama State Troopers worked both scenes in the southbound lanes around mile marker 144 between Letohatchee and Fort Deposit in Lowndes County.
Trooper spokesman Sgt. Steve Jarrett said the collisions happened around 6:00am.
The fatal collision occurred when a box truck slammed into the rear of a dump truck.
The other collision involved a van and a car. Authorities say the three injured victims did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was backed up for miles until approximately 12:30pm when authorities reopened the interstate.
The identity of the victims has not been released.
Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the crashes to determine the causes.
