It was a big Father's Day for an Alabama man whose wife just gave birth to sextuplets over the weekend.

More than 50 medical professionals helped deliver the six babies born Saturday to Heather and Mitchell Carroll at the Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

The couple, from Selma, welcomed five girls and one boy after 28 weeks in the womb, ranging in weight from between 2 pounds, 5 ounces; to 1 pound, 10 ounces.

Hospital officials say they are in stable condition in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Dr. Bill McKenzie said their mother was also stable and resting well.

"Heather and Mitchell Carroll were committed to this journey, their family and community were supportive, and God was faithful," Dr. McKenzie added. "I am so proud of this mother's toughness and appreciative for the excellent preparation and care she received at Brookwood Medical Center."
