AUM student-athletes excel in classroom

The Auburn University at Montgomery athletic department announced on Monday that 83 of its student-athletes were named to the Athletics Academic Honor Roll for the 2011 Spring Semester.

The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who attained a 3.0 grade point average or above during the semester. Of the 83 student-athletes honored, 44 were named to the Provost Honor Roll for earning a 3.5 GPA or better, including nine with a perfect 4.0.

The total number honored was 47.7 percent of AUM student-athletes and all eight sports had a minimum of three members recognized. During the past four semesters (Fall 2009 and 2010, Spring 2010 and 2011), 353 student-athletes have been honored for their achievement in the classroom.

"Our department is so proud of these student-athletes who so capably balance the academic obligations with the challenges of competing in collegiate athletics," Athletics Director Steve Crotz said. "I commend our coaching staff for keeping academics as the primary focus of our student-athletes' success."

The AUM athletic department will hold a special breakfast recognizing and honoring each of these student-athletes for their outstanding performance during the 2011 Fall Semester.
