HARTSELLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Hartselle mother was indicted for murder of her three-year-old son two years after his death. A Grand jury indicted 23-year-old Casey Lynn Travis on murder and manslaughter charges.

Three-year-old Jayden Travis died in 2009 and now the family is seeking justice. All the Adkins family can hang on to of three-year-old Jayden is their memories and a box of his favorite things.

They said two years ago on September 21st, everything changed with a phone call.

"She said, 'Jayden's not breathing. He's dead,'" remembered William Adkins, Jayden's father. "It was like a bad dream."

Two years ago the Priceville Police department investigated the death. According to Priceville Police Chief, Billy Peoples, officers and Emergency Medical Technicians arrived to a home where they found little Jayden not breathing. He was later pronounced dead at Decatur General Hospital.

Court records stated the cause of death was a lethal dose of Suboxone, a drug used to treat opiate addicts.

"There has been conflicting stories, but the investigation found Jayden took a pill of Suboxone around lunch time and by nightfall he was dead," said Chief Peoples.

He said the investigation centered around Jayden's mother. He added that she did not have a prescription for the pills.

A Grand jury indicted Travis for failing to seek medical attention and chemical endangerment of a child that caused the death of her son.

"He should have never been in that situation. She could have tried to get help for him and possibly he would still be here today," said Jessica Adkins, Jayden's step mother.

"I never thought in a million years it would be her because she made it seem like he was her world," added William Adkins.

The world is a bit darker for the Adkins family, who described Jayden as a bright easy-going child.
