The University of Alabama placed 94 student-athletes from nine different teams on the Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced Thursday.
The women's track and field team led the way for UA with 24 honorees while rowing was second with 16. The men's track and field team, which finished 25th at the NCAA championship, had 13 student-athletes honored.
Twelve members of the UA softball team that earned a berth in the Women's College World Series were named to the list and baseball, fresh off of advancing to the championship game of the Tallahassee NCAA Regional, had seven members on the honor roll . Men's tennis, women's tennis and men's golf each had six. Four women's golfers were also named to the spring honor roll. Women's tennis and men's and women's golf all advanced to postseason play as well.
To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. The spring list honors those student-athletes that participate in baseball, men's and women's golf, rowing, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field. A total of 1,032 SEC student-athletes earned the honor during the spring season.
The Tide had 45 and 37 student-athletes named to the SEC Fall and Winter Academic Honor Rolls, respectively, giving Alabama a total of 176 upperclassmen on the honor roll for the 2010-11 academic year. The league's freshmen that performed well in the classroom will be honored later in the summer.
