Crowds flock to Montgomery Riverfront for July 4th Festivities

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Americans celebrated our country's freedom with cookouts, parades, patriotic concerts and fireworks shows.   In Montgomery, a four-day Staycation weekend wrapped up with festivities at the Riverwalk Amphitheater.

Those who attended the fireworks show said it couldn't have been a better place to celebrate our country's independence.

"The part I like is the large flag and the camaraderie," said Veronica Weaver, who was attending the event for the first time.  "I work with veterans all the time.  And I think about the sacrifice.  And my brothers, several of them were veterans as well."

Governor Robert Bentley was among those who arrived just in time to see the fireworks.  They were delayed by about 40 minutes because of rain.
