Former Governor Bob Riley moved to Florida hospital

SARASOTA, FL (WSFA) - Former Governor Bob Riley is recovering in Florida after being transferred to a Sarasota hospital by air ambulance following his motorcycle accident last week.

The former governor's doctors in Alaska and Alabama thought it would be best to move him to a place where he can be observed for a few days before being released to rest and recuperate with his family. The Riley family owns a condo in Sarasota and was there on vacation when Governor Riley's accident occurred last week.

Governor Riley's doctors gave him clearance for the trip. Riley says he's in better spirits.

"There is still significant pain, but I'm feeling much better," Governor Riley said. "I'm grateful for the excellent medical care I received in Fairbanks and for the good Samaritans who picked me up after my fall and took me to the hospital. They truly were God-sent. I appreciate the outpouring of prayers and support from folks back home. I can't tell you how much that has meant to me. I'm thankful I now have the opportunity to join my family at our place in Florida while I continue to heal."
