Jeff's Journal - #20

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Only missed one last week in the SEC (Auburn/LSU). But outside the conference, I was "oh-fer"…. goose egg…. skunk… zero… zip… nada. For the season, the record now stands at 47-19 in the SEC (71%), 59-30 (66%) overall. Unlike Alabama, I don't have a bye this week, so let's hope we've made our corrections and will perform at a higher level this time.

South Carolina (5-3) at Ole Miss (6-2) - Who knew the Rebels would be the only unbeaten team in SEC play? I can't see them "running the table" (with Auburn and LSU around the bend) but I can see them beating the Gamecocks Saturday morning on WSFA. Ole Miss 31, South Carolina 21

Florida (5-3) vs. Georgia (7-1) - Georgia has a clear path to Atlanta and the SEC championship game. But there's a lot of hungry Gators along the way. The Bulldogs barely beat UAB last week at home, while Florida was resting up for the cocktail party. But I'm going with Georgia and David Greene over the Florida and true freshman Chris Leak. Georgia 28, Florida 24

Duke (2-6) at Tennessee (5-2) - No doubt the Volunteers are emotionally and physically exhausted after beating Bama in 5 overtimes. They can let the 3 rd-stringers play this week and still take the Blue Devils to the woodshed. Tennessee 49, Duke 14

Arkansas (4-3) at Kentucky (4-4) - It's a Razorback free-fall. Three straight losses from a team that was once ranked in the top 10th. Arkansas has better players than Kentucky, but I'm taking the Wildcats in an upset because the Hogs' confidence has to be rattled. Kentucky 31, Arkansas 30

Louisiana Tech (4-4) at LSU (7-1) - See the Tennessee observation. The Bengal Tigers are still celebrating their beatdown of Auburn. They probably will not be sharp Saturday night against La Tech. But they won't need to be. LSU 42, Louisiana Tech 10

Louisiana-Monroe (1-7) at Auburn (5-3) - Last time Auburn had a matchup like this (Western Kentucky), the final score was 48-3. Sounds about right. Auburn 48, Louisiana-Monroe 3

Troy State at North Texas - A Thursday night affair for TSU. The Trojans were shut out last week by Virginia. This game marks the first of 4 straight against Sunbelt Conference teams. Look out Sunbelt - here come the Trojans! Troy State 24, North Texas 17

Tuskegee at Lane - I don't know much about Lane. But I know this is shaping up to be Rick Comegy's most disappointing season at Tuskegee. His Golden Tigers rarely lose more than a game or two all year. This year the losses have been plentiful. Lane 17, Tuskegee 14

That's my forecast. Now it's your turn. You can post your comments and predictions on our Feedback Forum. Or better yet, while your here at our web site, play SEC Football Frenzy (under "Games and Contests"). See you next week! God bless - Jeff
