MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Imagine you've just gotten off the road, coming into the state from a long trip. Pulling into the Alabama welcome center for a few minutes of downtime and a quick snack are just a few of the things you'll get while there.
The state has eight designated welcome centers, and each will soon be home to a first-of-its-kind digital signage network that links the state with live streaming traffic cameras, local weather radar, news flashes from Raycom's Alabama stations and more!
Rich Michaelson with Broadview Media says the system is already in place at the welcome center in Lanett, Ala. and will soon be activated at all the centers.
Michaelson says the venture, in conjunction with the Retirement Systems of Alabama and the Alabama Department of Tourism, won't be limited to the welcome centers for long.
Future plans include expansion of the digital sign network to many other properties owned by the RSA, other state agencies and commercial venues.
The Retirement Systems of Alabama is the primary lender to Raycom Media, which owns Broadview Media and this television station.
Broadview Media is a production company based out of Montgomery, Ala. that provides video and satellite production and conferencing capabilities as well as facilities for conferences and large groups. The company is located at 201 South Union Street.
