Mom and baby dead, third injured in Birmingham stabbings

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WSFA) - WSFA 12 News and our sister station WBRC Fox 6 out of Birmingham are following some breaking news at this hour involving the stabbings of three people, including an infant.

One person is in custody, but no additional details were known regarding them.

WBRC is reporting that one adult is dead, a second is injured and a baby is dead after the three were attacked at the Shelby Motor Lodge in Alabaster, a suburb of Birmingham, Friday morning.

The victims include a man, a woman and a baby. The child and woman were mother and child. The man's relationship to them is not currently known.

The woman was transported by LifeSaver helicopter services to UAB hospital where she later died. The male victim is being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.

Alabaster police responded to the scene at the motel on 1st Street North in Alabaster around 11am after getting a call that a man with blood on his shirt was outside one of the rooms, said Deputy Chief Curtis Rigby.
