MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The clock is ticking to register for federal aid for April's tornadoes.
Today is the final deadline to apply for FEMA aid or a low interest government loan from the Small Business Administration.
Officials say Small Business Administration loan applications are just as important to the recovery process as FEMA grants. So far, more than $70 million in loans have been doled out across the state.
Small business loans come along with applying for FEMA grants. To keep options open, officials urge victims to apply for the loan even if its not wanted. Nate Custer, public information officer for FEMA, says victims should apply even if they have insurance since repairs could cost more and insurance could fall short.
Tornado victims should register over the phone at 1-800-621-FEMA, or online at www.disasterassistance.gov. To speed up the process have your social security number and a routing and account number from your bank.
