Owner of Cantina restaurants dies at 52

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The owner of several very popular Mexican restaurants in Montgomery and Birmingham has died of an apparent heart attack.

Guillermo Castro opened a restaurant in the Birmingham area in 1997 called Sol Y Luna. The businessman's success only grew.

He opened Cantina restaurants around the Birmingham area and franchises spread south. The Cantina restaurant recently opened in the Alley in Montgomery.

The Montgomery location is closed Monday with a sign in the window saying it will reopen Tuesday.

Castro, a native of Mexico, immigrated to Alabama and was known as a devoted father and supporter of community events.

He was 52-years-old.
