TROY, AL (WSFA) - Two suspects are in custody following a theft and pawning incident in Troy, police confirmed.
55-year-old James Edward Elkins, of Troy, and 47-year-old Phyllis Renae Bailey are charged with two counts of Theft of Property.
Police Chief Anthony Everage said Elkins and Bailey stole nearly $3,500 worth of construction equipment, including a miter saw, router bits set, cases of tools, a router, nailers, air hose and assorted tools from Pioneer Museum on US 231 Monday, July 25.
Everage said the suspects took the stolen property to a local pawn shop and sold it but as they were leaving, the property owner saw Bailey and noticed his property behind the counter.
The victim was told by the pawn shop worker that Bailey had just sold the property and it was at that point the victim noticed a coworker's property at that same location. Police say Bailey and Elkins are responsible for that theft also.
Elkins and Bailey were arrested at approximately 8:30 pm at the Troy Police Department. They were later transferred to the Pike County Jail with a bond of $3,500 on each count.
