Airplane makes a historic stop in Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

"The Spirit of Tuskegee" airplane made a historic stop today at Moton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama.

Four days before its final stop in Washington at the Smithsonian, the plane stopped at Moton Field, the original home of the Tuskegee Airmen.

The PT-13 stearman, open cockpit biplane, was used as a trainer plane for the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II.

The plane will eventually be on display as one of the inaugural exhibitions of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture when it opens in Washington in 2015.
