Elmore Co. Commissioner Taylor dies

Elmore County Commissioner Paul Taylor has died, that according to County Administrator Henry Booker.

Taylor, who had been battling a long-term illness, passed away Sunday evening.

Despite being sick, the commissioner continued working on county business until just last week. Taylor represented District 2, which encompasses the eastern edge of Elmore County.

Commissioner Taylor held the office since 2008. A lifelong resident of Elmore County, he was born in Eclectic, graduated from Tallassee High School and became a self-employed cotton farmer. He drove a bus for the Tallassee City School System.

Taylor also served in Alabama's National Guard for over seven years.

He's survived by his wife, Myra Jane, and their three children.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, August 2 from 5-7:30pm at Jeffcoat Funeral Home in Tallassee. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, August 3 at 11:00am at East Tallassee Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
