Fatal I-65 wreck involved police officer, young son

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

New details are emerging following the wreck Monday on Interstate 65 in Autauga County that took the life of an 8-year-old.

A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of Shane Stathers and injured his father, Jarrard Louis Stathers, both of Trussville.

Mr. Stathers, an officer with the Kimberly Police Department, was traveling northbound on I-65 when one of the tires on his 2004 GMS Envoy SUV blew out.

The vehicle rolled over several times.

Mr. Stathers was taken to a Montgomery hospital for treatment.

The accident, the second fatal crash of the day within a 10 mile stretch, happened just before 4:00pm and was approximately 12 miles north of Prattville.

Authorities are not releasing any other information since the investigation is ongoing.
