Training for half marathon begins

Folks in Montgomery are getting up bright and early to gear up for the city's next half marathon.

The marathon is not until October 1, but some runners and walkers are wasting no time trying to get in shape for the event.

Participants can train every week for the next eight weeks leading up to the marathon.

"We're excited to be downtown, excited Montgomery's doing this," runner Lisa Farmer said. "It's a great opportunity and the Montgomery half is awesome."

Participants run parts of the actual course working their way up to the whole course by the end of training.

Training will be held ever Saturday morning through September 24 under the water towed in the alley.

Training begins at 6 a.m. each Saturday.
