Corporal Dave Brown was joined by Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and other officials at an official retirement party Monday.
The party was held at the Montgomery Zoo's Mann Wildlife Museum.
Brown is officially retiring after surviving two wrecks in September 2010 that happened within minutes of each other.
The motorcyle officer continues to recover from serious injuries sustained when he was struck while working a funeral procession. The ambulance Cpl. Brown was being transported to the hospital in overturned a short time later.
Brown and the city of Montgomery settled a lawsuit in late July that was filed to force the city into paying his worker's compensation benefits. Details of the settlement were not released.
Brown spent 19 years on the force with MPD.
