Grocery stores recall packages of ground beef due to E. coli contamination

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Major grocery store chains are recalling certain packages of ground beef due to possible E. coli contamination.

The recalls are in effect at Winn Dixie, Publix, and Kroger stores.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has recalled more than 60,000 pounds of beef due to the bacteria.

This affects products sold mainly in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina and Tennessee, but the meat could have been distributed nationwide.

As of right now, no illnesses have been reported.

WSFA 12 News has contacted many of the local stores in the region. While some stores say they haven't been affected by the recall, others say they have removed all contaminated beef.

We'll bring you the latest developments on this story as we receive them.
