MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Two 16-year-olds are now charged with capital murder after the 91-year-old victim of a recent assault and robbery case died.
Montgomery police charged Anthony Bernard Haynes and Courtney Devon Goines, both of Buckingham Drive, with one count of capital murder each in connection with the death of Clarence Dotson.
Mr. Dotson died on August 13, eleven days after he and is 85-year-old wife were attacked in their home, also on Buckingham Drive.
The arrest warrants were served late Monday at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. Both Goines and Haynes have been held there since their arrest Aug. 2 - The designated day for crime prevention called National Night Out - on two counts each of first-degree robbery and one count each of first-degree assault. Both are being held without bond.
Dotson died Saturday at Baptist Medical Center South where he was admitted after the attack. Mrs. Dotson was also transported to Baptist Medical Center South but was treated and released. Mr. Dotson was admitted and had remained hospitalize until his death.
An autopsy conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences determined the victim died as a result of his injuries.
Police responded to the home in the 1200 block of Buckingham Drive at 7 p.m. Aug. 2.
Within 20 minutes of responding to the scene, MPD officers had identified suspects and taken both into custody.
Montgomery Police say the investigation is ongoing.
