DOC issues inmate escape notice

Prison inmate Wendell Oneal Alvis, Jr., is considered an escapee from the Hamilton Community Work Center. All appropriate law enforcement agencies were notified at the time of the escape, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Alvis, a community custody van driver, could not be located after dropping a fellow inmate at work on August 16.

The van was discovered at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Old Delmar Road in Haleyville, with the keys and radio still inside.  Alvis could not be located during an immediate search of the area.

Alvis is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 220 pounds, has brown eyes and brown hair.  He is serving a 12 year felony sentence for Theft of Property I, Burglary II, and Burglary III out of St. Clair County. Alvis' sentence was set to end in March of 2014.  No parole date is possible.

The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force is assisting with locating and apprehending Marlowe.
