Jackson County and state authorities are investigating a shooting.
Investigators said 37-year-old Melanie April Wheeler Brewster was shot while driving on County Road 369 in Pisgah at 9:30 Tuesday morning.
Brewster, the wife of a Jackson County Sheriff's deputy, was shot in the face. It's not known what kind of gun was used.
Brewster pulled to the side of the road after being shot and called a friend who picked her up. Her friend took Brewster to a nearby home and called 9-1-1.
Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips said the shot went through the windshield of Brewster's vehicle.
"When our deputies arrived we found the victim had been shot, hit in the face and upper body area. According to her she was unable to identify the shooter," he said.
There are no suspects in the shooting. Jackson County officials and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation are looking into the incident.
