Meth arrests made at Henry Co. home

ABBEVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

Agents with the Henry County Sheriff's Office/Abbeville Police Task Force say they've recovered evidence concerning the illegal production of methamphetamines and explosives at a home on County Road 55.

Agents arrested 44-year-old Phillip Wayne Smothers and 23-year-old Justin Allen Vandegrift at the residence.

 Smothers was charged with manufacturing of a controlled substance 1st degree, possession of marijuana 1st degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Vandegrift was charged with manufacturing an explosive device.

The Dothan Police / Houston County Bomb Squad with the assistance of equipment from the Alabama Department of Homeland Security responded to the scene and rendered all devices safe. 

Both Smothers and Vandegrift are in the Henry County Jail awaiting their first appearance in court.
