MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama State University football team went through its final formal practice of the week Thursday morning at Hornet Stadium in preparation for Saturday's season opener at Mississippi Valley State.
The game can be heard live on 90.7 WVAS-FM and can be seen live over the internet free of charge on www.swac.org.
"Thursday's practice is usually an efficient one, about an hour or so, and focuses on red zone, third downs and special teams," head coach Reggie Barlow said. "We took about half of our practice time today working on special teams. Like the rest of the week, the energy today was really good. Guys were focused and understand what we are trying to get done."
After a full week of preparation for the Delta Devils, Barlow senses his team is ready to play.
"As a head coach, you're always wondering if you've done enough," Barlow said. "From the mindset of our players, I think they're ready. They are anxious, and excited about traveling in the morning. I think they are ready to play. Obviously, there will be some things we have to adjust to as the game goes on. However, as far as installing the game plan and the concepts we have on offense, defense and special teams, they know it."
The Hornets are scheduled to depart Montgomery Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.
