Three dead, one critical in early morning crash

Three people are dead and a fourth is in critical condition following a one-vehicle car crash early Tuesday morning.

Escambia County Medical Examiner J. Daniel Raulerson says the accident occurred about 2 a.m. in Atmore when the car struck two pine trees at a high rate of speed.

The Press-Register reports ( Rauleson says 25-year-old Jeremy Duane McNeil and 14-year-old Coby Smith, both of Atmore, along with 17-year-old Ricky Herrera of Bay Minette, were pronounced dead at the scene. None were wearing seatbelts.

The medical examiner says a fourth person, whose name is unavailable, is in critical condition at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

The deaths in this multi-fatal vehicle crash are not included in the state's official list of Labor Day holiday traffic fatalities because it occured two hours after the official holiday weekend ended.
