Ala. universities make Best Colleges 2012 list

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The state of Alabama once again has several major universities listed in the Top 50 "Best Colleges" rankings for 2012 according to U.S. News and World Report.

Both Auburn University and the University of Alabama made the list.

The University of Alabama ranked 31st among public national universities and 75th among all universities, both public and private, according to newly-released rankings for 2012.

UA has been ranked among the top 50 public universities in the nation for more than a decade. The 2012 ranking is UA's highest ever, up from 34th last year.

Auburn University ranked 36th among public national universities and 82nd among all universities, both public and private.

AU finds itself on the top 50 list for the 19th consecutive year. It moved up from 38th in the previous report's rankings.

U.S. News and World Report's full 2012 edition hits shelves on Sept. 20.
