Troy U. mulls 'popping top' on beer sales at games

Troy University officials say they may start allowing fans to buy beer inside Veteran's Memorial Stadium next fall.

School officials say that they are looking for every opportunity to find new income in the rugged economy. They say that selling beer in the stadium could bring in significant revenue.

Associate Athletic Director Sydney Atkins says she's studying other universities in the Sun Belt Conference that sell beer.

She said that as far as she can tell, safety has not been an issue and schools are bringing in thousands of dollars.

Student Tiara Miles can't believe the university is even considering the idea. Miles said the atmosphere at games is already chaotic, and thinks that selling beer in the stadium "would be a disaster."
