ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A church association has hundreds of food boxes left over after it planned to give them out this weekend.
The Mallary Baptist Church Association had about 400 boxes of non-perishable food to give away Saturday.
Church members say the Department of Family and Children Services was supposed to give out vouchers to families. But only about 40 showed up.
The association spent more than $4,000 for 25 pound boxes of food from the Second Harvest Food Bank.
"We figure it would be around 400," said Interim Pastor, Carl Dunn. "Some churches were giving them out to people. I doubt if we've given out 36."
Volunteers also gave out boxes in Lee and Worth Counties.
