CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS VOTE 8 - 1 TO REZONE PROPERTY -

Tuesday - September 20, 2011

Hello from the WSFA 12 News Anchor office!

Over the emotional appeals of residents who live in west Montgomery, the city council voted 8 - 1 to rezone a sizable tract of land which may be the site of a large industry that would employ up to 900 workers.  Neighbors are worried because no one's telling them what kind of industry is considering the property.  Before and after the vote, Mayor Todd Strange reassured them that he and others would never bring in a plant that would hurt them or the environment.

Another city council meeting tonight - this time in Evergreen - where the mayor wanted a police officer fired after a "Tasing" incident involving a jail inmate.  We'll find out who prevailed in that situation tonight at 10.

The Selma City School System still has a way to go when it comes to its financial and attendance record keeping.  Tonight, the results of a state audit that found millions of dollars worth of discrepancies.

And, Valorie introduces us to a woman who drew on her real life experiences to find a way to restore a bit of dignity to female inmates leaving prison.  Meet this week's recipient of our Cash For Kindness Award.  It's another example of a person with a big heart and a kind spirit.

I hope you'll be with us at 10.

See you on the set...with Val!
