Governor Prepares To Investigate Recent Happenings At Auburn University

Governor Bob Riley is not ready yet to respond to Auburn alumni calling for top-level resignations at the University. He says he'll talk first to President William Walker, Athletic Director David Housel and others about a late-night recruiting trip to the University of Louisville. Walker, Housel and two trustees flew to Kentucky two days before the Iron Bowl to speak with Louisville coach Bobby Petrino -- with Tigers coach Tommy Tuberville still under contract.

The trip has become an embarrassment for Auburn, and Walker and Housel have apologized. The Auburn Alumni Association's board isn't the only group calling for Walker's head. The Auburn Trustee Improvement political action committee wants an investigation, and former Alabama Power President Elmer Harris says Walker and trustees Earlon McWhorter, Byron Franklin and Bobby Lowder should step down.
