An Alabama soldier based in Afghanistan says he's received a state flag promised by Gov. Robert Bentley after his initial request was refused.
Army Sgt. 1st Class Howard J. Blake Jr. says the white & red flag was accompanied by a certificate of recognition and a personal note from Bentley.
Blake sent The Associated Press an email that includes photos of a state flag flying at a base in Afghanistan.
Blake asked the governor's office for a state flag during the summer, but his request was refused because of the cost. Bentley intervened after Blake's story made news, changing what he says was a state policy and shipping a flag to Blake.
Blake says he's received 27 other flags from citizens, plus dozens of emails and boxes of goodies.
