An Escapee Is On His Way Back To Jail

An Elmore County escapee was able to take police on a wild goose chase for a little while this morning, but he is now on his way back to jail. Harvey Earl James escaped from authorities while he and other inmates were getting a regular dentist check-up. Police searched most of the morning across two counties looking for the escaped inmate. After using dogs and helicopters, around 11:45am they found him in the woods off of Lower Wetumpka Road.

The name Harvey Earl James might sound familiar to you because he was arrested a few months ago and charged with the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.Back in October at the Russell-Do-It Center, James tried to use stolen checks. When police tried to stop him James drove off dragging a deputy along with him. Elmore County Deputy Ricky Lowery was pulled several feet before James got away. James led officers on a chase through several counties, however he was eventually caught in Chilton County.
