ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) -
A corrections officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections has resigned following an arrest in Elmore County.
Leonard Purter was arrested Sunday and transported to the Elmore County Jail.
Purter is accused of smuggling contraband including drugs and cell phones into the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore.
Brian Corbett, a spokesman for the Alabama Dept. of Corrections, said an investigation continues into the alleged actions of Purter.
