AU student struck by bus, airlifted to hospital

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

An Auburn University student was taken by helicopter to Columbus Regional Medical Center after being struck by a bus Tuesday morning.

The victim, an unidentified 21-year-old female, was jogging with a group of ROTC cadets when a Tiger Transit bus traveling the opposite direction struck her with a side view mirror.

The accident happened at 6:40am on Lem Morrison Drive between South Donahue Drive and Camp Auburn Road.

Auburn police units and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and reported that the victim was conscious.

Medical personell decided to airlift her to CRMC but have declined to update her condition and identity pending family notification.

There were no other injuries reported.

A portion of Lem Morrison Drive was closed to traffic for approximately an hour and a half.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
