Tallassee Councilman Ricky Benton passes away

Tallassee Councilman Ricky Benton passes away.

Benton grew up in Tallassee and was a successful businessman operating AES Industries.

Tallassee Mayor George McCain tells WSFA he is saddened by the sudden death and that Benton wanted to do the best for the people he knew and loved.

According to Mayor McCain, Benton was diagnosed with bladder cancer about 5 years ago.

Flags in Tallassee will fly at Half Staff until after Benton's funeral.

Funeral arrangements for Councilman Benton have been made. Visitation is Friday, October 21st from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tallassee on Friendship Road. The funeral will be Saturday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist as well. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Jeffcoat Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
