MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama kicked off an early celebration for the organizations national 100th year anniversary Saturday.
The festivities were held at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and included entertainment, food, face painting and demonstrations of Girl Scouts activities.
"This 100th anniversary kickoff will be the start of an eventful year for Girl Scouts. There's going to be a lot of things for the community to be involved in at this event and other events," said Dr. Liz Brent, CEO of Girl Scouts of South Alabama.
To commemorate the event each girl was given a "100 Year" badge.
Girl Scouts USA launched in March of 1912 with only 18 members.
The Girl Scouts official 100th birthday will be March 12th of next year.
