BIRMINGHAM, AL (WSFA) - Birmingham, Alabama based Regions Bank Corp. announced Monday that it is eliminating its monthly check card fees in response to customer feedback. Regions is the latest bank to reverse course on the fees after customer backlashes.
Earlier in the day Atlanta-based Sun Trust pulled the plug on its newest fee. The Monday decisions followed moves by large banks including Chase and Wells Fargo that dropped the policy late last week.
"We are committed to providing an exceptional customer experience and are continually adapting our products and services in response to the needs and preferences of our customers," said John Owen, head of Consumer Services for Regions Bank. "We have heard from our customers and are responding to their feedback by eliminating the monthly fee for CheckCards."
The bank decided in October to begin charging a $4.00 per month fee for use of its cards.
Regions says the fee, for all accounts, will end effective November 1. The company said fees already incurred by its customers are being returned.
Regions is one of the nation's largest full-service providers of consumer and commercial banking. It has a presence in 16 states across the South, Midwest and Texas for a total of more than 1,800 offices.
