AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Authorities are announcing an arrest in connection with the disappearance and likely homicide of a pregnant Auburn mother.
Auburn Police, the Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Office and the Chambers County Sheriff's Office called an afternoon news conference Tuesday at which they announced the arrest of Keith Lemar Ware, 30, for capital murder in the case of Cherri Dawson.
The suspect and victim were boyfriend and girlfriend.
Dawson, 31, was five months pregnant when she went missing on Saturday, October 8. A search for the expectant mother - who also has another child, age 7 - led to the discovery of her burned out automobile the next day in neighboring Chambers County.
Two weeks later on October 25, authorities were called to the Camp Hill community of Tallapoosa County were someone had discovered animal or human remains. Those remains were transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for positive identification.
Authorities say they now believe the remains are those of Cherri Dawson.
Approximately a dozen law enforcement agencies including the FBI and over 200 officers have joined in the search for Dawson since her disappearance.
Ware is being held without bond at the Tallapoosa County jail.
The investigation is on-going and anyone with information is asked to contact the Auburn Police Division, Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Office, or the Chambers County Sheriff's Office.
